Trading the System A Journey Towards Freedom

The sun blazed mercilessly above as I trudged through the dense Australian bush, my boots crunching against the dry undergrowth. The cicadas sang their haunting summer symphony, and for a moment, I felt a deep connection to this land—my home. But beneath the warmth of the East Coast summer, there was an unease that had been building within me for years, a realisation that the system I’d grown up in, the one I’d worked tirelessly within, was no longer something I could abide by. It was time to trade it—to leave it behind—and forge a new path.

Who Am I?

My name is Jason. I’m a 52-year-old man living just outside Sydney, Australia. For the past 15 years, I’ve run my own telecommunications business, solving complex technical problems and keeping people connected in a world that’s increasingly reliant on digital infrastructure. But the world has changed—and not for the better. The cost of living here has spiralled out of control, freedom feels more restricted than ever, and the system seems designed to grind people down rather than lift them up.

I’ve always had an adventurous spirit. I’ve travelled to over 35 countries, immersing myself in cultures that challenged my perspectives and expanded my understanding of the world. But lately, my heart has yearned for something more—freedom, purpose, and a life that isn’t defined by endless bills, government overreach, and a relentless grind.

The Catalyst for Change

My awakening didn’t happen overnight. It began years ago, on September 11, 2001. I was sitting in an airport in Bangkok, watching in disbelief as planes struck the Twin Towers. Hours later, I boarded a flight to Frankfurt, Germany, and arrived in a world forever altered. That moment planted a seed of curiosity and scepticism in my mind. I began questioning everything—from the narratives fed to us by the media to the very structures that govern our lives.

Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that scepticism turned to outright rejection. The lockdowns, the mandates, the fear—it all felt like an overreach, a loss of autonomy. It became clear to me that this system was not designed for people like me, people who value freedom and truth.

Why “Trading The System”?

This blog, like my YouTube channel, is called Trading The System. The name is a deliberate play on words. On one hand, it’s about trading—specifically cryptocurrency, a field I’ve been delving into with increasing passion. On the other hand, it’s about trading in the societal system that has become untenable for something better. I want to break free, to find a way to live that aligns with my values.

Cryptocurrency represents freedom to me. It’s decentralised, finite, and immune to the whims of governments and banks that print money at will, fuelling inflation and economic instability. The idea of Bitcoin’s 21 million cap blew my mind, offering a stark contrast to the debt-driven economies we’ve become enslaved to. Over the past few years, I’ve started learning to trade crypto, and this year, I’m diving in headfirst.

The Plan

This is the year of change. By the end of 2025, I plan to leave Australia, moving to Southeast Asia to embrace a simpler, freer way of life. Having lived in places like Indonesia and Thailand before, I know the quality of life there can be unparalleled—affordable, vibrant, and unencumbered by the restrictions that dominate life in Sydney.

I’m giving myself 24 months to master crypto trading, using the current bull run to fund my move. My goal is to live somewhere warm, where I can focus on my passions—music, hiking, and documenting this journey—while building a sustainable income through trading.

A Personal Revolution

This journey isn’t just about escaping a broken system; it’s about reclaiming my health and happiness. Years of stress and complacency have taken their toll. At 112 kilograms, I’ve embarked on a mission to shed the weight, both physically and metaphorically. A recent four-day water fast was my first step, and I’m determined to reach my target weight of 85 kilograms.

As a musician, I also plan to weave my love for music into this adventure. I’ve written songs with award-winning artists and performed in ways that have shaped me deeply. Music will remain a constant, a way to process and share this transformative experience.

An Invitation

Trading The System isn’t just about me. It’s about exploring the possibilities of a freer, more meaningful life. If you’re someone who feels trapped by the status quo, who yearns for something different, I invite you to join me. Follow along as I navigate the challenges of trading, relocating, and reshaping my life. Together, we can discover what’s possible when we refuse to settle for a system that no longer serves us.

This is just the beginning. The road ahead will be rough, but it will also be beautiful. And I can’t wait to share it with you.

Here’s to a year of freedom, adventure, and change.

I have come to a point in my life where I finally have to admit to myself that the country I love and grew up in, Australia, is heading down the wrong path. Sometimes, when you’ve done what you can to make changes and it falls on deaf ears, you’re left with two choices: live with it or make a change in your own life. I’ve decided to make a change.
